Technology Behind the Protection
DexShell waterproof socks are built around a three-layer construction, combining a protective knitted outer, a Porelle® waterproof moisture-permeable membrane and an activity-specific inner layer. Together, these layers balance waterproof protection, moisture management, durability and comfort across different outdoor uses.
DexShell waterproof socks are certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.
How Waterproof Socks Work – The Complete Guide
Waterproof Socks FAQs
Are DexShell waterproof socks really waterproof?
Yes. DexShell waterproof socks use a three-layer construction with a Porelle® waterproof moisture-permeable membrane between the outer and inner layers. This membrane helps block external water from rain, puddles, mud, wet grass and shallow stream crossings, while still allowing moisture vapour to move outward during activity.
Can water enter over the top of waterproof socks?
Yes. Like all waterproof socks, DexShell socks protect the area covered by the sock itself. Water can still enter from the top if the sock is submerged above the cuff or if water runs down the leg. For deeper water, very wet terrain or repeated crossings, choosing a taller sock can provide better coverage.
Are waterproof socks breathable?
DexShell waterproof socks are designed to be moisture-permeable. The Porelle® membrane allows moisture vapour to escape, helping reduce the sticky discomfort that can build up during movement. However, waterproof socks are still more protective than ordinary socks, so warmth and moisture feel can vary depending on activity level, footwear and weather conditions.
Are waterproof socks warmer than normal socks?
Usually, yes. Because DexShell waterproof socks include a membrane layer and protective construction, they often feel warmer than standard single-layer socks. Warmth also depends on the inner material and thickness of each style. Lightweight models are better for running and higher-output activity, while merino-lined or terry-cushioned styles are better for colder, slower or longer outdoor use.
What activities are waterproof socks suitable for?
DexShell waterproof socks are suitable for activities where wet ground, rain, mud, puddles or cold damp conditions can affect comfort. Common uses include trail running, hiking, cycling, fishing, camping, commuting and wet-weather travel. The best choice depends on the activity, temperature, footwear and level of waterproof coverage needed.
How should waterproof socks fit?
Waterproof socks should fit securely without feeling tight or restrictive. A close fit helps reduce movement inside the shoe, while enough space in the footwear is important to avoid pressure on the foot. If shoes are too tight, comfort and moisture management may be reduced, especially during longer activities.
