waterproof sock construction

A multi-layer waterproof sock construction that keeps water out while allowing sweat vapor to escape from inside.

DexShell waterproof products are not built as single materials, but as integrated systems. Each layer – from outer fabric to inner lining – is engineered to work together, balancing waterproof protection, breathability, durability, and comfort.

Unlike traditional rigid constructions, DexShell technologies are designed to move with the body while maintaining waterproof integrity under pressure. The result is protection that performs not only in theory, but in real-world conditions – from wet winter trails to sustained endurance use.

Highlights

  • Patented stretch-laminated construction
  • Breathable waterproof membrane system
  • Advanced performance material partners
  • Individually pressure-tested waterproof integrity

How the System Works in Motion.

DexShell products use a stretch-laminated multi-layer construction that combines a durable outer fabric, a breathable waterproof membrane, and a moisture-managing inner lining.

Together, these layers block external water while allowing internal moisture vapor to escape. More importantly, they function as a unified system – moving naturally with the body while maintaining consistent waterproof performance during active use.

how waterproof socks work

The 3-Layer Construction Behind DexShell Waterproof Socks.

Outer Layer | Durability & Controlled Stretch

Engineered for abrasion resistance and controlled elasticity, the outer layer protects against external wear while maintaining structural integrity in high-friction environments.

Middle Layer | Waterproof & Breathable Membrane

A waterproof yet vapor-permeable membrane blocks external water while allowing moisture vapor to escape – balancing protection and breathability during active conditions..

Inner Layer | Moisture Management & Comfort

The inner lining regulates moisture and thermal balance, reducing friction against the skin while supporting overall system breathability..

System Integration | Performance Under Pressure

Unlike rigid laminates, DexShell’s stretch-laminated construction allows all layers to move as one – maintaining waterproof integrity without restricting motion.

DexShell Proprietary Technology Platforms.

Three core platforms define how DexShell systems perform in real-world conditions:

waterproof sock technology

DexTretch® 4-Way Stretch Lamination

Engineered to bond waterproof membranes to performance fabrics while preserving stretch, DexTretch® allows layers to move together as a unified structure – reducing internal stress and improving long-duration comfort without compromising waterproof integrity.

DexLOK waterproof cuff seal technology

DexLok® Cuff Seal System

DexLOK® is a cuff-seal system designed to reduce water ingress at the top opening – one of the most vulnerable points in waterproof systems. By reinforcing this transition zone, it improves overall system integrity in wet, dynamic environments.

DexFuze 3-layer bonded waterproof glove technology

DexFuze® Single-Layer Bonded Fabric

DexFuze® fuses outer fabric, membrane, and lining into a single composite structure. This reduces bulk, enhances dexterity, and improves tactile control – particularly critical in glove applications.

Performance Materials, Integrated into the System.

Each material is selected not in isolation, but for how it contributes to the overall waterproof system performance.

Waterproof breathable membrane material

Porelle® Waterproof Membranes

A high‐performance, hydrophilic, waterproof layer offering a Water Vapor Permeability (WVP) of 15,000 g/m²/day (ASTM E96:95).

Manufactured by PIL Membranes with over 40 years’ expertise, Porelle® ensures your feet stay dry and breathable in the worst conditions.

Porelle® is the registered trademark of KL Technologies Group Limited.

Merino wool thermal material

Merino Wool – Warmth, Comfort, Odor Control

Naturally warm, soft and odor-resistant, Merino wool keeps you comfortable from cold starts to hot finishes. It wicks sweat as vapor, regulates temperature and retains its shape wear after wear.

At DexShell, we use guaranteed mulesing-free Merino wool to meet responsible sourcing standards.

Moisture management material

Coolmax® – Moisture Management Yarn

No.1 recycled branded material

Repreve® – World No. 1 Recycled Performance

A leading recycled yarn made entirely from post-consumer plastic bottles and pre-consumer waste.

REPREVE® helps reduce petroleum use, conserve water and lower greenhouse-gas emissions – letting DexShell build premium performance gear with a lighter environmental footprint.

REPREVE® is the registered trademark of Unifi, Inc.

Polartec® – Engineered Warmth & Breathability

Polartec® performance fleece provides breathable warmth and flexible comfort for cold-weather protection.

Polartec® Power Dry™ is an all-weather base layer, built to quickly wick moisture away from skin to outer layers during activity.

Polartec® is the registered trademark of Milliken & Company.

What Waterproof Socks Are Designed to Do – and What They Are Not

DexShell waterproof socks are engineered to block external water while allowing internal moisture vapor to escape during active use.

However, they are not designed for prolonged full submersion above the cuff, nor do they eliminate moisture generated from excessive sweating. When worn correctly and paired with appropriate footwear, they provide reliable protection in rain, wet trails, splashes, and stream crossings.

Since inception, DexShell has focused on engineering waterproof systems that deliver reliable, breathable protection in real-world environments.
